Matthew D.'s Essay

“My dream for the future is…”
My dream for the future is to create a life with endless opportunities, taking advantage of all the time I have, and never slowing down due to fear or anxiety. My life is not ordinary, and living with CF has taught me to appreciate my health. I have learned it is important to be my own advocate and take responsibility for my health.
I have been fortunate enough to have good friends and a loving family supporting me throughout my life, and especially now in college. And now, right around the corner looms that gigantic gray block called adulthood. I cannot see myself falling into a mold settling into a comfortable routine, or following a path of predictability. Those who do may argue that they are happy, but it seems to me that they are trying to play in the snow by looking at it through a window. My future includes grabbing onto life by the reigns and riding it like a bucking bronco. My dream is to go into research, allowing me to experience exciting opportunities and make a difference. While I will focus on my health, I will not be obsessed. I will always be grateful for all of that I have and all the opportunities that lie ahead for me. Anything is possible with an open mind and determination.
My life is extraordinary.
