Lance W.'s Essay

“My dream for the future is…”
I believe we can either live to avoid and fear death or we can live to experience and love life. With that in mind, my dream for the future includes a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. However, when that moment comes, my philosophy on life will not change. When that moment comes, I expect not to look back at my previous years as years of disease, but as years of purpose. I have come to realize that challenge and adversity do nothing more than add meaning to a person’s life. The limitations placed on each man are merely opportunities for greatness in disguise. Cystic Fibrosis has been a unique trial in my life and because of it I feel I have come to a greater appreciation for the future. It has made me confront my own mortality. It has made me contemplate my own purpose. It has made me understand my own potential. For the future, I may dream of a cure, but I will not live for a cure. I live so that I can fulfill my potential. I live to go to school and reach my goal to become an engineer. I live so that I can meet the girl of my dreams. I live so that my dreams of having family and living a successful life might come true. I do not know how long my dreams will last, but I know that I have control of my own destiny. I know that no disease can control that.
