"My dream for the future is..."

My dream for the future is that all children will have the right to an equal opportunity to live life to the fullest. As an undergraduate education student, people often ask me what I am going to teach. For a long time, I responded "choral music", but lately, I have changed my answer to "I teach people how to be human and live." Choral conductor Robert Shaw once said "In a world full of political, economic, and personal disintegration, music is not a luxury but a necessity, not simply because it is therapeutic nor because it is the "universal language", but because it is the persistent focus of man's intelligence, aspiration, and good will". It disheartens me that we live in a society where, even to this day, the color of skin or the amount of money in our bank account determines our social standing. Consequently, our children need to be taught about how to function as a global community, a community of learners and dreamers who will be capable of turning their dreams and thoughts into a socially-conscious reality. As a music education student and a person with Cystic Fibrosis, I have learned that I must live my life to the fullest to receive the fullest. Furthermore, my students must be allowed to dream big, and learn how they as individuals affect people thousands of miles away. Today's students must complete their goals to the best of their ability, and let it be their inner peace.
