“My dream for the future is…”

When I applied to Kansas State’s College of Architecture, Planning and Design my senior year, I knew that I had no easy task ahead of me. For starters, it is an intense and very selective process. I talked to many people that had graduated from the program and were familiar with my situation before making my decision. They all told me the same thing, “It’s probably not the choice for you.” Hearing this over and over became a catalyst to my success and would later help me in times of difficulty.

To get into the program you first have to go through a special selection process to get accepted to the College of Architecture. Once accepted into the college the first year is another test to see if you can progress into the program. If your GPA is high enough, they will consider you into one of their four programs. I applied to Landscape Architecture which had just topped Harvard to become the number one program in the nation. I am currently in the process of finishing my third year in Landscape Architecture. My dream for the future is to graduate with my Masters in Landscape Architecture and prove to those who didn’t think I could make it that impossible is nothing. The last thing I want in this life is for this disease to make me who I am. When I recap my life, Cystic Fibrosis will be a footnote, something I dealt with, but didn’t control my life.
