Brian D.'s Essay

“My dream for the future is…”
The future. Some may see it as driving an electric car or being served by a robot, but I see it in a different way. In my future, I hope to give more back to the world than it has given to me. Although I was born with Cystic Fibrosis, I have had the ability thus far to live fully a life without limits, not held down by the shackles of CF. Whether it has been acting in a school play or playing baseball, CF has never hindered me. This is mostly due to advancements made in medicine. My future includes me becoming a Pharmacist and possibly a drug researcher so that I am able to continue the great strides made thus far toward curing this disease. I would like to defy odds and live well into my 80's. I see a future in which there are no genetic defects that at one time killed children before they reached the age of three. The future holds great promise for all of us who have inherited Cystic Fibrosis, and it is my wish that I dedicate a substantial portion of my future to experiencing and enjoying the accomplishments and challenges I encounter while at the same time helping to make better the futures of others.
