Scholarship Overview - SolvayCARES Scholarship

In the United States, Solvay Pharmaceuticals has been helping people with cystic fibrosis (CF) manage their health for more than 20 years. Our SolvayCARES^SM program expands this tradition, offering comprehensive support to CF families through nutritional, educational and financial resources.

Recognizing the financial burdens that exist for many CF families, we developed the SolvayCARES^SM Scholarship to honor young adults with CF as they pursue goals of post-high school education. Since 1993, we have awarded scholarship funds totaling more than $2,000,000.

SolvayCARES^SM continually seeks new ways to support the CF community. Over the past 17 years, we have been consistently inspired by the outstanding attitudes, accomplishments and spirit of our Scholarship recipients. That's why we created the opportunity for SolvayCARES^SM Scholarship recipients to earn scholarship funding while also sharing success stories with people across the country.

Scholarships will continue to be awarded based on applicants' creativity, academic excellence, community involvement and ability to serve as a positive role model for the CF community.

In 2009 we are celebrating the 17th year of the SolvayCARES^SM Scholarship program. As in 2008, 40 winners were awarded $2,500 each for use during the upcoming academic year. In addition, this year all other scholarship applicants received an award of $500 towards their educational pursuits.
Profiles of the 40 winners can be viewed at www.SolvayCARESScholarship.com so that people from around the country can vote for the winner they find most inspiring. Voting has been expanded this year to include toll-free and text methods.
The SolvayCARES^SM Scholarship winner who receives the most online, phone and text votes will be named the 2009 Thriving Student Achiever and will be awarded $17,000 in place of the standard award.*

*If the amount awarded exceeds the student's educational funding needs for 2009-2010, the balance will be donated to a CF-focused charity of the recipient's choice.
