Cheriz K.'s Essay

Living with Cystic Fibrosis has taught me that with perseverance and passion any goal can be accomplished. Ever since I was young, I’ve loved science and dancing/performing. Now, at the age of 23, I am starting my last year at the University of Illinois as a geology major, and I am still performing in theatrical productions. Cystic Fibrosis made my goal of being a geologist, and a performer on the side, a bit more challenging. My first semester of college, I had medical complications ending in major surgery. This was followed by a severe allergic reaction to morphine, resulting in a medical withdrawal from college. I started back to college the following semester and have been working toward graduating since.
Not only has CF helped me become motivated throughout my academic career, but it also helps me realize how much I am loved by my family and friends. Anytime something happens, they are right there. They support me constantly and are always willing to help me overcome the obstacles life brings. This only makes me realize that nothing can deter people from their dreams.
CF taught me strength, patience, and perseverance to overcome any obstacle my life may have in store. CF has made me realize how independent and hardworking I have become. Therefore, my goals are near completion. I have succeeded and will continue to do so. Also, I always know my family and friends will be there if I need them.
