Brendan K.'s Essay

Living with CF has taught me many things. I have learned that it makes life harder for me than for my friends. I can do most of the same things as them, but I sometimes can’t so those things at the same level. For instance, playing football would be harder for me because Cystic Fibrosis makes it hard for me to gain weight and get bigger. Also, if I ever want to get something to eat at someone’s house I might not be able to because I forgot my medicine or I might have to deal with a stomach ache for the next day or two. Sometimes when I want to go out for the night, I have to wait longer because I have to finish my treatment first which messes with my plans for the night.

On the up side, CF has helped me find out who my real friends are. They are the ones who ask me if I took my medicine when we eat or ask me if I need to go home and do my treatments before we go out for the night. I have also learned that living with CF has given me confidence. I can tell people what it is and why I have it without being embarrassed and make jokes about it.
